The rapper is close with his mom, who joined him on stage during his acceptance speech at the 2020 Grammys. He was raised in Ladera Heights, California by his mother, Louisa Van Velsor. His excellent 2018 effort Flower Boy was his second to be nominated for a Grammy and his most recent album, Igor, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. And they kept the crowd alive, with hype songs and at one point the creation of a huge hole to start a mosh on this guy. There are many celebrities who were raised by independent single moms and Tyler, the Creator is one of them. Although he began his rap career as something of a provocateur, the Tyler who hurled all those gay slurs has evolved into one of hip hop’s most honest artists, tearing through long-held hip hop boundaries of gender and sexuality.
He's also provided voice work for shows like Axe Copand video game Grand Theft Auto V. By this point, he has become a well-known solo artist who has released several self-produced solo albums and established his own clothing line, Golf Wang. Known professionally as Tyler, the Creator, Tyler Gregory Okonma is a rapper who rose to prominence as the co-founder of the underground hip-hop collective Odd Future.
